About Red Temple
Red Temple was founded in 2001 in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, one of the city's most storied manufacturing districts, with a heritage in metalwork stretching back centuries.
In 2025, the foundry relocated to a larger facility in Aston, expanding its capabilities while staying rooted in Birmingham's manufacturing heritage. The move marked a new chapter: modernised production, greater capacity, and the same commitment to craft that has defined the foundry since its founding.
We work directly with artists, designers, architects and commercial clients, bringing the same care and attention to every project, from a single sculpture to a production run of hundreds.
About the Team
Tom Sherlock — Owner
A Brummie born and raised, Tom has always been drawn to making things by hand. His route into sculpture and casting was not entirely straightforward, but each step brought him closer to the work he does today.
He first went to university in London to study Furniture Making, where a lecturer noticed his natural instinct for form and suggested he might be well suited to sculpture. That comment planted a seed, and Tom went on to study Fine Art in Wolverhampton. But it was not until he moved to Carmarthenshire to study Casting, Carving and Construction at the West Wales School of the Arts that everything began to fall into place.
It was there that Tom first learned the lost wax casting process and developed a deep appreciation for traditional foundry skills. The combination of sculpture, material knowledge, problem-solving and hands-on making felt like a natural fit.
Today, Tom brings that same practical creativity to Red Temple. Whether working with artists, designers, architects or commercial clients, the most rewarding part of the process remains the same: taking an idea and transforming it into a finished object.
Sarah Sherlock — Owner
Sarah was born and raised in South Wales, but Birmingham has always been part of her family story. Her father's family lived in the city for generations before relocating to Cwmbran in the 1960s, and Sarah later discovered that her great-great uncle had worked as a jeweller in the Jewellery Quarter, just yards from where she would one day study.
She met Tom at the West Wales School of the Arts, where she studied Ceramics and Jewellery while Tom studied Sculpture. After graduating, they moved to Birmingham together, and Sarah continued her jewellery studies at the School of Jewellery, close to Red Temple's original home in the Jewellery Quarter.
For Sarah, running a foundry in Birmingham feels like coming full circle: a continuation of her own creative path, her family's connection to the city, and a long tradition of making.
Today, she continues her own artistic practice while also helping artists and designers bring their ideas to life through the bronze casting process.
Established in Birmingham as a specialist fine art bronze foundry, serving artists and sculptors across the UK.
The business is relocated from the Jewellery Quarter to a more modern facility in Aston, expanding capability while staying rooted in Birmingham's manufacturing heritage.
